Eastern Guilford football is doing well so far having won six games in row, including a homecoming victory over Winston-Salem Atkins on Oct. 8.

Head coach Tony Aguilar said ‘’what pleases him most about his team is the work ethic and attitudes; also working hard in practice makes a difference on the field.’’ Eastern has played against Northern Guilford (7-35), Ragsdale (47-0), Northeast (58-8), Rockingham County (40-21), High Point Central (23-0), Atkins (44-6) and Southern Guilford (56-0). Northern is the one loss for the Wildcats so far this season and that came in week one.

At this point the season, Aguliar would give his team a B-, “I don’t think we are at our peak yet but we are playing well. There’s a lot of things we need to clean and correct.”

Ag feels that certain areas of the team still need improvement such as defense with better execution, offense with communication and special teams just getting better at the little thing.

Football player Jayden Evans agrees with Ag, ‘’ I give the team a B+ we are doing good but there is still things we need to improve on if we want to make it to the playoffs."

Through six games this season, Evans has sparked the offense with six touchdowns and 600 yards (571).

Although Eastern Guilford has played 7 games so far, they have only won 6. Their one loss, being Northern Guilford.

Coach Ag mentions practicing a strong work ethic attitude, along with practicing with his team, has helped them improve since then. Yet, motivation is the one thing that keeps the team focused, and a certain player agrees with that.

Player Morgan Gunn agrees, “Just remembering what happened in the first game and it being motivation to keep playing hard.“

Coach concluded by saying “The team keeps that same mentality with each and every game. One game at a time, not looking ahead, focus on each game each week.”
