The 2021 Eastern Guilford High School Homecoming nominees stand on the track at the football stadium Oct. 8 during halftime.

Add Adriana Whoie to the list of homecoming queens at Eastern Guilford High School. Whoie had to battle the weather conditions, as well as six others as EGHS held its 2021 Homecoming on October 8.

The senior was selected as the 2021 Queen edging out Nevaeh Barkoot, Adriana Burnette, Narhiya Daniels, Kaliyah Frazier, Katelyn Harmon and Kaliyah Mobley. Whoie was escorted onto the football field by Peace B.

“Homecoming queen makes me feel happy and it’s such a big accomplishment to me. I am very humble about winning this year's queen,” Whoie stated.

The court festivities came at halftime of Eastern Guilford’s football game against Winston-Salem Atkins. The Wildcats won the game, 44-6 and improved to 5-1 on the season.

Jashawn Thigpen, who was voted as the 2020-21 EGHS Homecoming King, was introduced to the WIldcat crowd. Thigpen is currently attending Winston-Salem State University and majoring in sports management.

Thigpen passed his crown onto Mykell Lawson, who was chosen over Xavier Haylett, Stephanie Stokes and Jamaria Troxler. Lawson was escorted to the field by Jemya Whitis.

Lawson said following the crowning that he did very little campaigning and felt he won based on his popularity at school and being an athlete.

This year, EGHS debuted two new categories to the homecoming court - Mr. and Miss EGHS. According to student council advisor Antavius Jones these two individuals elected into these positions will serve as the faces of the school as well as community service chairs for EGHS Student Council. The 2021 Mr. EGHS is Jake Trammel and the 2021 Miss EGHS is Adrianna Wright.

“I’ve gained a lot more confidence in myself and I also learned to socialize with my peers more,” Wright said.

The other Mr. EGHS nominees were Luke Stamey and Connor Walsh. The Miss EGHS nominees were Jordyn Barbour, Jmya Frzier and McKenna Jackson.

Selected as the 2021 homecoming prince was Bryson Stallings and as the 2021 homecoming princess was Jamirah McMillan. McMillan was escorted by Christina McKoy.

Winning felt amazing and I’m so glad to be the homecoming princess,” McMillian said.

Nominees for homecoming prince included Malachi Cobb and Duncan Gonzalez.

“I joined homecoming court because it seemed like fun and we didn’t get to make much memories due to covid. Memories are important for high school,” Gonzalez said.

The nominees for homecoming princess were Angel Cotton, Breyonne Harper, Peeta Rogers and Jasmine Russell.

It felt like a leadership role committing to homecoming court,” said Rogers. “I want to make a name for myself especially for senior year. I want people to be able to come up to me and know I’m a friendly person.”
